Create A Website - A Myriad Of Uses

Sunday, August 31st, 2008

Websites are an everyday part of life in this day and age. There are news sites, game sites, networking sites, and many more. In fact, if you can think of a topic, you can probably find a website about it. If you wanted to add your own content to the World Wide Web, however, how would you go about it? You could certainly do search “how to create a website” and be inundated with information, but how much of that is really relevant?

A variety of people may find it necessary to “create websites”. The most crucial factor to consider prior to starting is to decide its purpose. Is it private? Maybe you’d like to post your kid’s photos for family members’ delight. Or it may be work-oriented, a means for an artist to show their work. It might even entail the launch of a home-based company. These each need a unique type of website built.

Most browsers contain built-in software for making simple web pages. One can create a simple, attractive page just by choosing a few options for backgrounds, adding pictures or inserting text. More advanced users can modify the HTML code behind the site by hand, in effect “writing” their own site. These are easily the lowest-cost methods of putting a site together, particularly for the self-hosting Webmaster, or just someone who wants to keep their site ad-free at the expense of bandwidth costs.

If a website is intended for more than personal use, a simple, handmade site may not be design of choice. If a website is to be used for professional purposes, there is software available (both online and in stores) that will allow you to create a website which will achieve that function. By taking some time to experiment with the software, you can create a quality website that showcases you and your work in a professional manner. This software is usually higher in cost than using what comes packaged with your browser, but the cost should be viewed as an investment in your company.

Businesses that are run from home are harder to design websites for than the bigger companies because of the requirements to show available merchandise, keep track of customer purchases and returns, and the priority of securely accepting and storing customer data. Without plenty of history in web site design, you should buy your shopping cart software and customize it later.

For those who are concerned about the cost involved in creating a website, there are less expensive and more expensive options. Using browser-bundled software to create a website is cheap; whereas buying software (or using pre-made websites) can be more expensive. The use of the website should be the determining factor of the method of creation of the website.

All types of websites exist these days and finding out how to create a website is easy, but the information may not always be relevant. Sites can be for personal use, career moves or a business start-up. You can use website building programs or create websites yourself if you have the talent — whereas your site will showcase your great work. Smaller sites are harder because of fewer products, tracking and security so it’s best to purchase shopping cart software and customize it later. Whatever you choose, prices will vary so consider your needs before buying.

Create A Website: Web Hosting And More

Thursday, August 28th, 2008

Looking to get moving and create a website? Great! It’s a very smart move, and very important to do in today’s digital information age, where consumers are turning to the web more and more. Still, not every website is created equal. You want yours to effective and attractive, so a strong, well thought out design is a point that you want to focus on very much.

When you create a website, make sure that the design is readable. If you have a dark background your text should be light, and vice versa. Clashing colors may look snappy at first, but will soon strain the eyes. In the same vein, it’s best to avoid text that is too small, because some visitors will have problems reading it. If you have doubts, get someone else to view your site and ask his or her opinion.

Since you are familiar with your site, you might not notice the difficulties that a visitor may have in navigating your site. Make sure that you have a readable design as well as a clear layout. A site map, as well as clear navigational guides, will also be helpful.

You would like to have multimedia items such as pictures, music, video and interactive elements in your website to make the site attractive. If this is the case it is advisable to keep them in separate pages; for example a photo gallery for pictures, page with audio or video clips etc. The purpose for which this is recommended is due to the fact that multimedia elements require faster internet connections and many people still use slower connections.

It wise when you decide to create a website that any multimedia files are set not to play automatically. There are many sites that, for example, replay the same music file every time a visitor clicks there. For many visitors, this becomes very annoying. It is better to let the visitor decide if and when they’d like to play the file.

Often one of the stipulations of web hosting is that you carry advertisements on your site. Although this may not be anything you can change, keep in mind that if you create a website that includes an overabundance of advertising, it may turn visitors away. If advertising is a must, check with your hosting service to see if you can at least select what type of ads will appear, as advertising having some relevance to the subject of your site is better than random ads. It may also be possible to select the format of ads, whether they are text, banner, pop-up or sidebar. Just as you have different preferences, so do your site visitors, so choose carefully.

Once you’ve followed all these tips and have a site that’s readable, easy to navigate, view it in different browsers. Internet users use several different programs, and what works on the browser you use may break or look bad in another browser. It takes some extra time, but it’s worth it to make sure that your website gives the best possible impression!

When you set out to create a website the first thing to be considered is the design. The color combination and the text of your site should be such as to be soothing to the eyes and not cause strain to the eyes. A site map will be helpful to the users. Multimedia aspects should be kept on separate pages. Always give the option to visitors of your site whether they wish to listen to music and watch the video or turn them off. Your site must be easy to read and navigate in different types of browsers.

Book Publicity - Ten Ways to Find Your Book’s Best Publicist

Thursday, August 28th, 2008

When it comes to the promotion of your book it is important to know that: “Publicity is the voice of visibility.” This is a terrific message to all of you authors out there. When it comes to getting the word out about your book in order to drive sales, nothing can beat a great public relations campaign.

The trick is to find a terrific publicist to help you gain media attention for your book. But how do you do that? What should you be looking for? Here Marsha Friedman, Chief Executive Officer of EMSI, a national pr firm shares her 10 tips to find the best publicist for your book.

1. Publicists often specialize in different genres of books (e.g., non-fiction, fiction, children’s books, religious titles, etc.). If you book is financial, find a firm that works exclusively with that genre of book. Marsha Friedman says, “The same holds true for fiction publicists, children’s books, etc”

2. Find a publicist that will take the time to research your topic enough to understand how to communicate your message to the media. Marsha Friedman adds, “You don’t want a publicist that will rush through your topic and campaign to varying successes. Choose one who is interested enough to ask questions and really grasp what your message is.”

3. Make sure that the publicist is a specialist in your choice of media. Marsha Friedman says, “Every publicist you come across may not be specialized in the tv, radio or print that you desire. It is a known fact in the industry that if a publicist does not specialize in the media you choose, they will refer your business to another company.” So if you have written an exercise book, then TV would be best. Thus you would need to find a publicity firm that specializes in TV.

4. Make sure that you request to see sample campaigns. Sure, it will be the publicist’s best foot forward, but a sample will still demonstrate their skill and proficiency at obtaining media.

5. Along with reviewing sample campaigns, speak to past clients, too, if you have the slightest hesitation about engaging their services.

6. Make sure to look at the price tag and shop around. Don’t use the most expensive publicity firm simply based on the fact that they have a fancy address in a major metropolitan city.

7. And speaking of fees - in the book industry you’ll find many publicists who work on a performance or project basis. Marsha Friedman says, “There are many firms out there that charge on a project basis while there are others that will charge you every month regardless of their results. So, steer clear of monthly retainer based firms.”

8. Look past the hype. Marsha Friedman says, “The problem an author can run into is the sales person they speak with and build confidence in, is not always the person who will be handling their campaign. Don’t be afraid to ask who will be handling your campaign, writing your press releases, scheduling your media. You need to see what their experience level is, the amount of time they were at the firm and anything else you want to know about them. After you worked so hard on your book you want to be handled by the best.”

9. Don’t limit your search to local agencies. Marsha Friedman says, “This point is really important if you are interested in gaining the attention of the local media. You don’t have to regularly have face-to-face meetings with your publicity firm. The work involved can be done via phone. So focus your efforts on finding the best publicity..period!” 9. One last point - find a firm that has an understanding of your topic and an enthusiasm for your message! Many times, the determination of your publicity team can be a major reason for their successes in obtaining media coverage for you.

So there you go! Go out and there and find the best publicist!just make sure to use these 10 vital tips! If you would like to learn more about gaining media attention for your company, product or service, without the financial burden of monthly retainers, Marsha is available to be of service . It may seem a little strange to change the way that things are worded on your website just to match up with how people talk about the things that are on your site. Start A Day Care - Magical Marketing Tool

Wednesday, August 27th, 2008

When opening a day care you are constantly and desperately looking for ways to market your new business. One of the most effective marketing events you can organize is an Open Day. I held one when opening my day care and it proved to be my most successful marketing endeavor reaping rewards to this day.

When you start a day care you should plan to hold this event just prior to, or shortly after opening. Showcasing your amazing day care service is the primary reason for holding an Open Day allowing potential customers to view your facility and ask questions. My big day was particularly fabulous and impressive (I’m very modest) so I figured what better way to give you some tips than to detail exactly what I did to create the perfect Start a Day Care Open Day.

- Prior to the event, I contacted my local radio station and arranged to run some advertising for a couple of weeks. I arranged to have the ads run during drive time when I knew my potential clients would be traveling to and from work. - The radio station threw in a guest appearance by their fleet of personalized, fun cars plus staff handing out fun gifts. They really added to the festive, special feel of the day. - I had promotional flyers printed and paid a few kids to distribute them locally. An Open Day needs to be fun and family oriented thus encouraging people to attend so I arranged the following party like activities; - A few art students to do face painting. - A couple of drama students to be clowns. - Some more drama students to tell stories. - A fun bouncy castle. - Nibbles for all. - The official opening ceremony was performed by a local politician and the local rags followed him to take pictures and write a piece for free. Arrange that people can tour your day care on the open day in order to see your facilities and find out more about your service; - Polished presentation is very important when showcasing your day care. I carefully arranged the layout of all equipment in every room in order to show the day care to best effect. - Allocate staff members specific rooms and business cards and instruct them to deal with any questions or queries. - As the day care owner you should be around to welcome people and answer questions. - I organized a drawing with everyone writing their name and phone numbers on the back of my business cards and gave a voucher to the day care as a prize (this is a nice way to start a marketing list). It was a great day and I still get business from people who attended, saw an advert or simply heard about it on the radio. Word of mouth advertising resulting from this event was also phenomenal. A well organized, properly planned open day will be fun and memorable and people will talk about it. Many of my clients heard about me from friends or relatives who had attended and left impressed with my day care. So, when opening a day care put your events hat on and utilize the best day care marketing tool out there.

Fiona Lohrenz draws on her 10 years of running a day care to write articles on all aspects of child care. She also pours this wisdom into her childcare website and has used it to produce a ‘How to Start a Daycare Business’ DVD guide: Starting A Daycare Fiona can be found at her website, which is all about Day Care.

Make A Website Yourself With Simple Design Tools

Wednesday, August 27th, 2008

For the average person, building a website can sound like a tricky and complex process. Many people believe that they have to construct a site using hard coding that can take years to learn and can be just as difficult to maintain once the site is online. But, thanks to the newest programs available online and on the market, even the novice site designer has a means of constructing a site quickly and easily. If you’re looking to make a website, these programs can be a great way to develop your virtual storefront.

Many of the available website design software that you use over the internet is “what you see is what you get” since you do your designing for your site through a supplied template that offers various graphics and text choices. You can pick and choose the options that fit your specifications so that your website has the pictures, video, copy and other design characteristics that present the image and personality you want for you or your business.

If you use a software program to make a website, you may only be required to know a small amount of coding, sometimes you don’t need to know any at all. Many programs that offer simple building tools are enabled with code editors so you can change things as you learn certain codes or enables you to add more detailed elements to your site that aren’t typically covered by the program.

These building programs allow you to build pages quickly, easily publish to the internet, and be ensured there’s website space reserved for your content. There are programs that allow you to make a website, then preview the website right in the program, before it is published for the world to see. Unless the building program has internal tools to properly format the page (which most programs do have), it is important to preview the website for appearance.

A major perk, if you are a true rookie when it comes to utilizing site design applications, is that lots of this software comes with templates and step-by-step lessons to aid you in learning and building at your own rate. That means that even if you know nothing in this area you can create the web page you require and master the navigation of such programs simultaneously.

Therefore, if you want to have your own page online and don’t want to bother with learning code or employing a website designer (with possibly unsatisfactory results despite the expenditure of all that money), how about considering how you can make a website on your own? Given the accessibility of applicable software on the market, you can place a professional-looking site on the Net without much trouble and more rapidly that you ever would have thought possible.

Thanks to the newest programs available, the novice site designer has the means to make a website quickly and easily. Website design programs that help you develop a website template in a window with graphical and text elements are often called “what you see is what you get” website builders. With this program, the text and graphical elements can be changed to create a custom design and to quickly add other media elements. If you use these programs to create a website, the amount of coding that you would be required to know is minimized, and is zero in many cases.
